Michael Kramer, Attorney at law

Interviewer: Once I get out of jail, what’s next? How often am I going to court? Is this a court appearance that my attorney handles and I am not required to attend? What’s the process once you’re out of jail?

You Are Required to Attend All Scheduled Court Appearances in Westchester County

Michael: You have to make all court appearances in Westchester County. Those appearances are set by you and your attorney. In some courts that are crowded, such as crowded city courts, the spacing for appearances in local courts could be monthly, could be every six weeks.

In other courts that are not that crowded and a judge wants to move a case quicker, appearances could be set every two or three weeks. There are some clients who want to move a case as expeditiously as possible to get it off their shoulders and to get it over with. There are others who say drag it out as much as possible for financial reasons and otherwise.

Some Courts Are Crowded in Westchester County, but You May Have Some Leeway in Scheduling Court Appearances to Suit Your Schedule

It varies, but you can set the schedule with your client. An attorney can set the schedule with their client in Westchester County in terms of spacing of court appearances.
