Michael Kramer, Attorney at law

Interviewer: Are there any areas in Westchester that are notorious for frequent traffic stops or speeding?

Michael Kramer: The unique geographical set up of Westchester County, which is where I mostly practice, is made up of local towns, villages and city courts and jurisdictions. Each one has their own police department.

In addition to that, you have county parkways that are patrolled by the Westchester County Police and then you have state highways or parkways that are patrolled by the New York State Police. You have all of these different agencies with all their separate police units, some of which exert more pressure to produce ticketed motorists than others.

After handling so many of these cases as a traffic violations attorney in White Plains, NY, there are towns and villages that seem to produce the most tickets and certainly some parkways as well that also produce a number of tickets. A specific place that comes to mind is Interstate 684, between Exit 4 and 6. This is a big place for New York State Troopers to patrol and they issue tickets that are returnable in the Bedford Village Court, which is one of the most crowded traffic courts around.

In addition, the town of Harrison has a high incidence of traffic tickets because a lot of parkways seem to intersect through the Town of Harrison. They also have big traffic court. In terms of there being speed traps, there are no particular places that come to mind.

Are Traffic Violations Issued More Frequently During Certain Times of the Year?

Interviewer: Have you noticed any specific time of the year where you’re going to see more speeding happening? Are holidays a time when many tickets are issued?

Michael Kramer: It’s up to the individual policies of the police agencies. Sometimes they have more police officers patrolling during certain holiday seasons where motorist are more likely to drink.

In terms of any particular season, I would say most of the driving occurs during the spring and the summer. I guess that would be the highest time of year for the production of traffic tickets. This is what I have seen during my practice as a White Plains, NY Traffic Violations Attorney.

Is Self-Representation a Viable Option to Handle Traffic Offenses? Is It Even Worth Retaining an Attorney for a Speeding Ticket?

Interviewer: Do you encounter many people that feel why is it even worth hiring a lawyer for minor traffic tickets like speeding or failing to stop at a stop sign? Do many people opt instead for self-representation?

Michael Kramer: I would tell them that they can opt for self-representation; most people that go to traffic courts don’t have lawyers. But then the question becomes, if you hire a lawyer can he obtain a better result than the individual could get for themselves? By and large, I can get a better result.
